HIPAA COMPLIANT FTP SECURITY MEASURES

At NLA we take extraordinary measures to keep your medical notes secure.  All internet file transfers are handled by our HIPAA compliant FTP server.  All internet  file transfers use the industry standard 128-bit encryption routine or higher.  Along with login ID's and password protection. Files can be sent 24 hours a day 7 days a week.  To utilize our server you will need a browser that supports SSL/TLS sessions.

To start a secure-FTP session, you will need to install an FTP client that supports this option. We use the CoreFTP program available free at coreftp.com.

Verification can be established in two ways.

Verification#1

In the lower right hand corner of Core FTP, the secure icon will appear to show that a secure connection has been established. 

Verification#2

Verify connection in the log:

For SSL/TLS:

AUTH TLS
234 AUTH TLS successful
TLSv1, cipher TLSv1/sslv3 (EDH-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA) - 256 bit

You will rarely  see an SSL/TLS connection connect below 128 bits.  The log information is for your reassurance only.  If you see the secure icon displayed in the lower right corner there is no need to worry if you cannot find the security bit count in the log.
